Auto company Mahindra, under the leadership of Anand Mahindra, has stepped-up with its contribution in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. After developing ventilators in March, the company is now manufacturing hand sanitisers.
The indigenous ventilator, developed in March, would cost less than Rs 7,500. The company’s research and development team have developed the hand sanitisers.
A team spearheaded by Ashok Sharma, Sandeep Gadre and Pradeep Cheema, have developed the low-cost in-house sanitiser. After completing a series of testing procedures on the sanitisers, the team has obtained a license and has commenced production.
The company has also started manufacturing face-shields in its fight against COVID-19. These face-shields are to be used by medical professionals to shield them against the virus. Wearing face masks and washing hands at frequent intervals are the few measures healthcare officials have recommended to keep the virus at bay.
Mahindra retweeted his employee SP Shukla’s’s tweet congratulating the team for developing the hand sanitiser. He tweeted, “I join in to congratulate you and your team. You have shown you know how to ‘Rise’ to the occasion…”
There were mixed reactions to the tweet.
One user commented, “What is great in formulation? It's formulation is known to all. What is the big deal in it? Most important is pricing. Will it be available to end consumers at less than rs.400 per ltr?”
To this, one of the researchers involved in the project replied: “Thanks for your reply to Anand. Happy to inform you that it is available at less than Rs 400 per litre... pl free to contact me on 98920 62832 for more details. Ashok”
A lot of other users lauded the team and its efforts.
