Passengers on board Mail and Express trains will have to shell out more money for meals from Monday. The price of veg breakfast has been increased by Rs 10 from Rs 30 to Rs 40, non-veg breakfast will be charged Rs 50, up from Rs 35 previously. The veg meals price has been hiked to Rs 80 from Rs 50 and non-veg meals will be sold at Rs 130, up from Rs 80.
The revised rates for biryani are at Rs 80 (veg), Rs 90 (egg) and Rs 110 (chicken). However, there has been no change in the price of snacks. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRTC) will continue to serve coffee and tea in these trains at Rs 10.
The revised catering tariff will be effective for passengers in Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains from March 29, 2020. For first-class passengers in these trains, tea and coffee will cost Rs 35 (up from Rs 15), breakfast Rs 140 (up from Rs 90) and lunch and dinner Rs 245 (up from Rs 140).
For travellers in second-class AC, third-class AC and chair car, cost of tea will be priced at Rs 20 (up from Rs 10), breakfast at Rs 105 (from Rs 70), lunch and dinner at Rs 185 (from Rs 120), and evening tea at Rs 90 (from Rs 45).
The catering tariff in sleeper class of Duronto trains are: tea at Rs 15 (up from Rs 10), breakfast at Rs 65 (up from Rs 40), lunch and dinner at Rs 120 (from Rs 75) and evening tea with snacks Rs 50 (up from Rs 20).
IRCTC has also agreed to introduce snacks with regional flavour in the trains. The total ticket fares of premium trains will be inclusive of the price of the food. However, if the passenger decides not to take the food, the price of food will be deducted from the ticket.
