COVER STORY

New year, new hope

Compete in the Ironman championship, become a singer, do standup comedy and cut down on desserts. These were some of the past New Year resolutions of doctors we spoke to. While some became reality, others didn't. Yet the failure to stick to their resolutions hasn't deterred them from making fresh ones. For, as Dr Shah Alam Khan of All India Institute of Medical Sciences says, “At the end of the day, resolutions are the closest semblance of hope, more so when you are surrounded daily by the sick and the dying.” Here are seven doctors who write on the changes they seek—personal and professional, their expectations in the field of medicine and their aspirations for our country.
