#ReleaseCGL17Result trends as students await 2017 mark sheets

Thousands of students took to Twitter awaiting 2017 SSC CGL exam results

Rajasthan BSTC result 2019 declared; check details here

Over 800 days have passed since students wrote the Staff Selection Commission - Combined Graduate Level Examination (SSC CGL) in 2017, for jobs in government departments and ministries in C and D categories. Yet, thousands of students are still waiting for their results, after a spate of delays pushed the release date further and further.

On Tuesday, the hashtag #ReleaseCGL17Results was trending on Twitter with over 71,000 tweets.

The exams were originally held in November of 2017, with 30.26 lakh candidates appearing and 1.5 lakh qualifying. A controversy over leaked results, however, stayed the exam. Despite large student protests in early 2018, the results were not released.

In August, 2018, the Supreme Court stayed the declaration of results, with a bench of Justices S.S. Bobde and L. Nageswara Rao saying that “the entire SSC system is tainted and entire examinations (2017) are tainted.” The bench added that “it can’t be believed that the custodian of the examination paper is himself leaking the paper.”

In May, 2019, the Supreme Court ordered the Staff Selection Commission to release the results.

In August, the Staff Selection Commission announced that the results would be released in November. A statement by the SSC chairman said that the board was "heavily engaged" in dealing with conducting examinations of Combined Graduate Level Examination (Tier-I) 2018, the Combined Higher Secondary Level (Tier-I) Examination 2018, the Multi Tasking (Non-Technical) Staff (Paper-I) Examination 2019, the Combined Higher Secondary Level (Tier-II) Examination 2017, as well as the Selection Post Phase VI Examination 2018 for Matriculation, Intermediate and Graduation Level Examinations, the SI in Delhi Police and CAPFs and ASIs in CISF (Paper-I) Examination and the the Constable Examination 2018.

The statement, however, added that "the Commission had prioritized conducting of the Document Verification and Skill Test for 35,990 eligible candidates of CGLE 2017 between 16.6.2019 till 31.7.2019."

In desperation, students have been tagging the official handles of ministers and news organisations. Some students tweeted that their document verification had even taken place but they were still left in the dark over whether they would get the job.

Over 36,000 candidates qualified in the Tier-III round of the SSC CGL exams in 2018. The next stage after qualification is document verification, followed by final selection.

The SSC has tentatively announced November as a release date for the exam results.
