Indore, Nov 8 (PTI) An absconding accused in the November 2 killing of a police station in-charge in Madhya Pradesh's Dewas district during an operation against liquor smuggling died of suspected brain stroke in neighbouring Gujarat on Sunday, an official said.
Khategaon Police Station House Officer (SHO) Dilip Puri was trying to stop a truck carrying more than 1,800 litres of illicit liquor near the Narmada Dhaba at Sandalpur crossing on the Indore-Betul highway when the driver allegedly drove the vehicle over him, killing him on the spot.
"Mohin Jaiswal, who was absconding in the case, was admitted to a hospital in Gujarat following a suspected brain stroke and died during treatment. He was a native of Gujarat," Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Aditya Tiwari told PTI.
Another official said the bootlegging network uncovered in the probe following Puri's death was operated allegedly by Rahul Jaiswal through three licenced liquor shops in MP. Mohin Jaiswal had a 30 per cent stake in this illicit business, he added.
Five accused, including Rahul Jaiswal and truck driver Gajendra alias Akku Rawat, have been arrested in the case so far.
