Kolkata, Nov 7 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari will celebrate Diwali with BSF personnel deployed along the India-Bangladesh border in North 24 Parganas district on Sunday.
Adhikari said he will visit a Border Outpost (BOP) at Hingalganj along with DGP Siddh Nath Gupta to extend Diwali greetings to the personnel guarding the international border.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event at Kolkata Police headquarters in Lalbazar on Saturday, Adhikari said the visit was aimed at expressing solidarity with security personnel who remain away from their families to protect the country's borders.
"Several meetings have been held in Delhi to strengthen the relationship between the BSF and the police. I will visit the Hingalganj BSF post tomorrow along with the Director General of Police to extend Diwali greetings to those who have left everything behind to guard our borders," he said.
The chief minister said his government was working to create a positive environment and improve coordination among different agencies.
"The government is making every effort to foster a positive environment and build strong bonds. In the days to come, you will see that there is excellent coordination," he said.
Adhikari also stressed the need for better coordination between the state and the Centre on border security.
"You will see in the coming days how the Centre and the state are working together through better coordination," he added.
The visit comes amid efforts by the state government to strengthen coordination with the BSF, particularly along the India-Bangladesh border.
Adhikari's decision to celebrate Diwali with BSF personnel follows a tradition maintained by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who began celebrating the festival with security personnel during his tenure as Gujarat chief minister and continued it after becoming the PM.
