Imphal, Nov 7 (PTI) Hundreds of trucks stranded in Manipur's Senapati district for six days due to a shutdown called by a Kuki organisation began moving towards Imphal on Saturday, officials said.
The trucks, carrying essential goods, started moving from Senapati towards the state capital early in the morning.
The vehicles were stranded along National Highway 2, which connects Imphal with Dimapur, after the Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU), based in Kangpokpi district, imposed a total shutdown from Sunday.
The shutdown was called after the mutilated bodies of two youths, who had gone missing the previous week near Taphou Kuki village, were found in a hilly area of neighbouring Senapati district.
The bodies were found stuffed in gunny bags at a banana farm during a search operation to trace the missing youths.
They were identified as T Chongloi (21) and Paoginlal Hangsing (20).
On Friday evening, COTU announced a seven-day suspension of the shutdown.
The decision followed the partial fulfilment of its demands and assurances from the state government that the remaining demands would be addressed.
