Balodabazar, Nov 7 (PTI) A textile businessman, his wife and their 24-year-old son died after coming in contact with an electrified iron railing at their residence in Balodabazar town of Chhattisgarh, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place on Friday morning at the family's house near Nehru Chowk under the jurisdiction of City Kotwali police station.

The deceased were identified as Rakesh Gupta, who ran a textile business, his son Om Gupta and wife Varsha Gupta, an official said.

"Rakesh Gupta came in contact with the iron railing on the balcony after stepping outside in the morning. He reportedly got stuck to the railing after an electric current passed through it. Om rushed to rescue him. Both died on the spot," the official said.

Varsha Gupta also suffered severe burns while trying to save her husband and son. She was initially taken to the district hospital and later referred to a private hospital in Raipur, where she succumbed during treatment, the official said.

A case of unnatural death was registered, and a probe is on to find out whether a short circuit or exposed wiring caused electric current to pass through the railing, he said.
