Shimla, Nov 6 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh Director General of Police Ashok Tewari on Friday emphasised advance identification of fire-prone locations, strategic deployment of fire tenders, and positioning of trained personnel near densely populated areas.

The DGP urged the Director General, Home Guards, Civil Defence and Fire Services, to undertake special fire safety preparedness across the state ahead of Diwali

He also emphasised on the positioning of trained personnel near congested markets, densely populated residential areas and other vulnerable locations, particularly during peak evening hours.

He directed that fire stations remain on heightened alert, with fully operational equipment, adequate manpower, water reserves and arrangements for immediate reinforcement, a statement issued here said.

On Thursday, the DGP directed all District Superintendents of Police to ensure a peaceful and incident-free Diwali across Himachal Pradesh.

Fire control rooms should be suitably strengthened and maintain close coordination with ERSS-112, Police Control Rooms, district administrations and health authorities to ensure swift and coordinated emergency response.

Special emphasis has also been placed on preventive fire safety inspections, public awareness regarding firecrackers and electrical decorations, unobstructed access for emergency vehicles and personal supervision of preparedness by senior officers, he said.

Tewari observed that "The success of our preparedness will be measured not merely by how quickly we respond to emergencies, but by how effectively we prevent them. Even a minor lapse in a crowded locality can have serious consequences."

The DGP has called upon citizens, traders and market associations to exercise caution, follow safety precautions and immediately report any emergency through 112.

Making district SPs personally accountable, Tewari had directed them on Thursday to ensure advance inspections, adequate field deployment and continuous supervision.
