Raipur, Nov 5 (PTI) The Congress and its allies, in their pursuit of power, are opposing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and working against the country's interests, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai claimed at the BJP's 'Loktantra Bachao- Arajakta Hatao' rally here on Thursday.
The Congress and its INDI bloc allies are undermining democratic institutions for political gains, he added.
"The Opposition questions Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and the Election Commission whenever it loses elections, while accepting the same when it wins. Congress and its allies are opposing PM Modi and, in the process, working against the country's interests in their pursuit of power," the CM said.
Recalling the selection process for the country's first PM, Sai claimed 12 Congress leaders had supported Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, but Pandit Jawaharlal was eventually chosen for the post.
BJP state president Kiran Deo said the march was part of a campaign to protect democracy, the Constitution and constitutional institutions.
He accused the Congress of adopting contradictory positions on electoral institutions and said people had repeatedly rejected its politics.
BJP MP Brijmohan Agrawal alleged that certain groups were attempting to destabilise the country and push it towards anarchy.
"India's democratic foundations are strong, and such attempts would not succeed," he asserted.
The march and rally, organised at Subhash Stadium, was part of a campaign to counter what the BJP described as the Opposition's misinformation on democracy, the Constitution and constitutional institutions.
More than 10,000 people participated, including state ministers Tankram Verma and Guru Khushwant Saheb, BJP state general secretary Akhilesh Soni, MLAs Rajesh Munat, Motilal Sahu, Purandar Mishra, Sunil Soni, Anuj Sharma and Indra Kumar Sahu.
