Chennai, Nov 3 (PTI) Finance Minister N Marie Wilson has refuted DMK chief M K Stalin's claim on Tamil Nadu's GST slump and said the state registered positive growth in GST revenue collection after the TVK took up the reins.

He said Tamil Nadu's Goods and Services Tax growth has shifted from a negative trend to a positive 3.2 per cent growth as of October. Additionally, post-settlement growth reached 8 per cent in October.

Wilson attributed the growth to the new initiatives and reforms initiated by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay. Speaking to reporters here on Monday, he emphasised that these results are the product of deliberate policy changes implemented over a period and that the result cannot be expected overnight.

Wilson criticised the former Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu, accusing him of focusing solely on "negative narratives" and outdated GST data while ignoring the current positive growth figures.

On Monday, both Stalin and Thennarasu slammed the ruling TVK for allegedly pushing Tamil Nadu into a severe economic downturn characterised by plunging tax revenues, systemic "policy paralysis," and mega industrial projects shifting to a neighbouring state.

Under the TVK regime, Tamil Nadu's GST revenue growth has hit an unprecedented low, sinking well below the national average (of 22.9 per cent in October), Stalin had said.
