Ahmedabad, Nov 3 (PTI) A man died and another person was injured after they jumped from a second-floor window of their office in Ahmedabad to escape a fire, police said on Tuesday.

The blaze erupted in the office located in the four-storey 'Magnet Corporate Park' building in Thaltej locality at around 9.30 pm on Monday, Bodakdev police station's inspector Sandip Khambhala said.

The fire started on the building's second floor and later spread to the first floor. Most of the offices in the building, except the one on the second floor, were closed when the incident occurred, additional chief fire officer Jayesh Khadia said.

A 23-year-old man, identified as Rachit Patel, died from injuries sustained after jumping from the second floor of the building. Another youth, who also jumped from the building out of panic, sustained injuries and was undergoing treatment, Khambhala said.

Fire personnel rescued six others working in the office using a ladder, Khadia said.

Several others working in the office managed to rush to safety on their own. Some of them were affected by smoke following the blaze, officials said.

The fire was later brought under control. A short circuit was suspected to have caused the blaze, which damaged the office equipment and furniture, they said.

Deceased Patel was a native of Rajkot, Khambhala said.

A case of accidental death has been registered, and a probe is on into the incident, the police added.
