New Delhi, Nov 3 (PTI) The BJP and the ABVP will on Tuesday hold rallies, public meetings and protest marches across several states under the 'Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao' campaign, targeting the opposition over what the party has described as attempts to undermine democratic institutions and create unrest.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will address a public meeting at Lok Bhawan in Lucknow at 12.30 pm, followed by a march from Lok Bhawan to Parivartan Chowk at 1.30 pm.
Union Health Minister and BJP leader J P Nadda will participate in the party's rally in Bareilly, while another rally will be held in Rudrapur in Uttarakhand's Udham Singh Nagar district.
In Kolkata, BJP national general secretary Smriti Irani will address a press conference as part of her visit to West Bengal.
BJP’s student wing, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), will also organise a 'Save Democracy' protest march in Ranchi, starting from Bapu Vatika and culminating at Albert Ekka Chowk.
The campaign comes amid an ongoing political confrontation between the BJP and opposition parties over allegations of electoral irregularities and the functioning of democratic institutions.
The INDIA bloc on Sunday called for the BJP's ouster from power over the "vote chori" charge, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi asserting that CEC Gyanesh Kumar will be removed and sent to jail for "treason" in the future, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah will not be allowed to escape the law.
In a show of strength, prominent leaders of the opposition grouping addressed a rally at Ramlila Maidan against alleged electoral irregularities and voter list revision, and claimed that the BJP formed governments at the Centre and in states with a "stolen" mandate.
