Kolkata, Oct 30 (PTI) Two childcare workers from West Bengal's Sundarbans have received national recognition for their contribution to child safety and early childhood development, officials said.
Manju Pradhan and Sonamoni Halder, associated with the Child in Need Institute's KAVACH initiative in Kultali, were among 14 such workers recently honoured at the India Childcare Champion Awards in New Delhi, they said.
The awards were organised by the Forum for Creches and Childcare Services (FORCES) in partnership with the Global Alliance for Care and UN Women India.
Those present on the occasion included Delhi Women and Child Development Department Secretary Rashmi Singh, retired Justice Gita Mittal and UN Women India Country Representative Shoko Ishikawa.
Implemented by CINI with funding support from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), KAVACH provides supervised childcare facilities in the Sundarbans, where ponds and other open water bodies pose a drowning risk to young children, a release said.
The initiative combines childcare and early learning with measures to protect children from such hazards, it said.
Pradhan and Halder provide daily care to children and work with families to improve child safety, the release added.
