Srinagar, Oct 30 (PTI) Estranged National Conference Lok Sabha MP Ruhullah Mehdi will hold a rally in his stronghold Budgam on November 3 before announcing his resignation from the party and Parliament following differences with the NC leadership, including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
“Ruhullah Mehdi will resign from the National Conference and his Lok Sabha seat on November 3, 2026. The crown prince and his cabal treat J&K as an estate passed down through the family. They expect the people to vote, then know their place,” Mehdi said in a post on X.
He also said the National Conference (NC) leadership take “us for fools who cannot tell a broken promise from a political necessity”.
“Ask them to honour their own manifesto, and they lecture us on how little we understand realpolitik,” the Srinagar MP said, accusing the NC leadership of trading the rights of the people for power.
“We demanded the restoration of Article 370, release of prisoners and protection of our rights. They sought power on those promises, then treated us as fools for expecting them to deliver. We refuse to lend our name to this humiliation. There is no fixing this rot from within,” Mehdi said.
Referring to his victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Mehdi said the seat was won on a promise to the people.
"Ruhullah Mehdi will surrender it rather than make himself an accomplice to that promise's betrayal,” the post said.
Mehdi will address the people on the death anniversary of his father Aga Syed Mehdi at the Behshit-e-Zehra Park in Budgam on November 3, and “we welcome all to join”, it said.
