Jamshedpur, Oct 29 (PTI) Tata Steel Foundation, the Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre and Composite Regional Centre, Ranchi, have signed a pact to promote Indian Sign Language and improve inclusion of deaf and hard-of-hearing people.

The MoU was signed on Wednesday by ISLRTC director Raju, CRC Ranchi director Suryamani Prasad and TSF CEO Sourav Roy in the presence of Amitabh, head of skill development, SABAL and Sports, a Tata Steel statement said.

The partnership aims to address communication barriers faced by deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals by strengthening sign language skills among professionals and communities.

As part of the initiative, 10 master trainers from TSF will receive training and certification in ISL to support awareness programmes, training and inclusive practices.

The collaboration will also include structured ISL training for TSF employees to promote accessible workplace communication and improve understanding of deaf culture.

The partners will jointly develop learning modules and information, education and communication materials for wider outreach.

"Inclusion begins with communication, and the ability to communicate is fundamental to ensuring equal participation," Roy said, adding that the partnership would help foster environments where deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals can participate with dignity, confidence and independence.
