Mumbai, Oct 29 (PTI) Congress and NCP (SP) leaders on Thursday targeted the ruling Mahayuti over the Maharashtra Legislative Council poll results, saying the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi's victory in three of the five seats had embarrassed the BJP-led alliance.
Congress leader Sachin Sawant said the Mahayuti's "arrogance of power" had been swept away in the polls despite a "huge influx of money".
"Varanasi and now Nagpur... hit hard, but hit solidly by entering their home!" Sawant said in a post on X, referring to the Opposition's performance.
The Samajwadi Party won the Varanasi graduates' constituency in Uttar Pradesh, while the Congress bagged the Nagpur division graduates' seat in Maharashtra.
Nationalist Congress Party (SP) national spokesperson Clyde Crasto took potshots at the BJP-led ruling coalition after the Sharad Pawar-led outfit won two council seats in the October 23 polls.
"Arrogance and overconfidence caused (Chief Minister) Mr Devendra Fadnavis and Mahayuti grave embarrassment," Crasto remarked in a post on X.
He also pointed out that the MLC elections were held using ballot papers.
Of the five graduates' and teachers' constituencies of the council which went to the polls, the Opposition MVA won three, while the Mahayuti alliance bagged two.
Polling was held for Pune graduates’, Nagpur graduates’, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad) graduates’, Pune teachers’ and Amravati teachers’ constituencies.
