Hamirpur (HP), Oct 29 (PTI) As many as 12 accidents occurred in Hamirpur district in September, prompting the administration to ensure strict compliance with traffic rules and identify accident-prone locations for necessary improvements.

A total of 74 road accidents occurred up to September 30 this year, compared to 52 cases recorded during the same period last year, according to Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Hamirpur, Abhishek Garg.

In September alone, 12 road accidents took place in the district. Garg said preventing road accidents requires not only strict compliance with traffic rules but also identifying accident-prone locations and implementing necessary improvements at these sites.

Officials said the District Road Safety Committee, chaired by Garg, met on Wednesday for a comprehensive discussion on road safety issues and accident prevention measures.

Police upload road accident information to the Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD). He said the e-DAR (e-Detailed Accident Report) portal was developed primarily to provide immediate relief and compensation to road accident victims.

Garg said the Health and Transport departments play a crucial role in uploading accident-victim data to the e-DAR portal. Therefore, all relevant departments must ensure they do not delay uploading this data unnecessarily.

He mentioned that in September, the district issued challans (fines) to 46 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol. In addition, officials issued challans (fines) to 1,307 for overspeeding, 29 for rash driving, 44 for not wearing seat belts, 1,948 for not wearing helmets, 71 for driving without a valid license, and 37 for using a mobile phone while driving.

The ADM said strict action should be taken against parking vehicles along main roads and road encroachment. Furthermore, school buses must strictly adhere to all regulations. He emphasised the need for widespread publicity regarding the 'PM-Rahat Yojana', which provides cashless medical treatment of up to Rs 1.5 lakh for road accident victims.

The ADM said the 'Rahveer Yojana' provides a reward of up to Rs 25,000 for individuals who come forward to assist road accident victims.
