New Delhi, May 27 (PTI) The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has introduced 10 additional Namo Bharat train trips during peak hours on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor to meet the rising commuter demand.
The new services between Sarai Kale Khan and Meerut South stations come in addition to the eight extra trips added last week, taking the total number of newly introduced trips to 18, according to a statement.
It said 10 additional trips will operate during the morning peak hours between 7 am and 11.30 am, while eight more trips will run during the evening rush hours between 5 pm and 8.30 pm.
The enhanced services are aimed at reducing waiting time, improving frequency and providing greater convenience to daily commuters, including office-goers and students, it said.
"With more trains available during busy hours, passengers are expected to benefit from smoother boarding, better seat availability and a more comfortable travel experience," the statement said.
The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor has been witnessing a steady rise in ridership, with nearly one lakh commuters using the service daily, according to the corporation.
The NCRTC said the move is also expected to encourage greater use of public transport, especially amid the ongoing heatwave conditions across Delhi-NCR and western Uttar Pradesh.
Several parts of Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut have recently recorded temperatures close to 45 degrees Celsius. The corporation said the fully air-conditioned trains and stations are providing commuters with a more comfortable travel option during extreme weather conditions.
It added that train operations will continue to be aligned with commuter requirements to strengthen sustainable public transport connectivity in the region.
