New Delhi, May 22 (PTI) People may soon be able to scan a QR code and submit road-related grievances directly to Delhi authorities as the PWD plans the 'Know Your Road' initiative, officials said on Friday.
According to the Public Works Department (PWD) officials, despite taking several measures, currently there is no direct access for the people to submit complaints, know the road construction history and check maintenance records.
Now, a portal will be created by the PWD, where complaints can be submitted by scanning QR codes, an official said.
A tender for developing an online service and installation of quick response (QR) codes on 1400 kilometres of road under the PWD has been approved, the official added.
"Despite significant investments in infrastructure, citizens currently have no direct, accessible mechanism to view road construction history, maintenance records, or contractor accountability for any specific road," the official added.
Under the 'Know Your Road' initiative, an online monitoring dashboard for complaint redressal would also be developed, which will be linked to the QR codes.
"This initiative will create transparency, accountability, faster grievance redressal and citizen trust in public infrastructure management," the project plan said.
The codes would be placed on road signboards and by scanning them, a person "can scan and instantly view road details, contractor details, engineer details, work history, complaint status and ongoing maintenance updates without downloading any mobile application".
Initially, the pilot project would be rolled out at 100 locations, and other locations would be covered later.
PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh had announced the initiative in March this year.
