New Delhi, May 14 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday announced a slew of measures, including two days of 'work from home' (WFH) for government offices, use of Metro trains on Mondays by ministers and officers, and a voluntary 'no-vehicle day' every week.
Gupta said in a press conference attended by her Cabinet colleagues that the government has drawn an extensive plan under a three-month "Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan" public movement to implement the appeal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for saving fuel and wise expenditure.
She said all Delhi government offices will follow WFH two days a week. The private sector will also be requested to follow it, she said.
Gupta said all ministers, officers, employees and she herself will use the Metro for commuting on Mondays while people will be requested to observe 'no-vehicle day' every week.
The petrol and diesel quota of official vehicles of the government will also be cut down by 20 per cent, capped currently at 250 and 200 litres to 200 and 160 litres respectively. However, the travel allowance of government employees will be increased by 10 per cent to enable them to use public transport, she said.
The government has also decided to cancel all official foreign visits by ministers and officers for one year while no big events will be hosted by it for the next three months, the chief minister said.
In view of the changes in vehicle use, the timings of the Delhi government and MCD offices have also been changed. The Delhi government offices will function from 10.30 am to 7 pm, while the MCD offices will open from 8.30 am to 5 pm and the central government offices from 9 am to 5.30 pm, she said.
Earlier, Gupta headed a meeting with all her Cabinet ministers and senior officers of the government to discuss ways to save fuel and other resources amid global uncertainty over crude oil and gas supplies.
The objective of the measures announced by the chief minister was to make Delhi a practical model with respect to reducing fuel imports and pressure on the foreign exchange reserve of the country amid the global uncertainty, said a statement.
All offices of the Delhi government will ensure that at least 50 per cent of their meetings are conducted through video conferencing. The government will also appeal to the colleges to adopt online mode for non-practical classes, guest lectures and administrative meetings.
Courts will be requested to conduct online hearings as far as possible, Gupta said.
The government will also help private companies to implement flexible working through setting up a call centre to sort out their compliance-related issues, she said.
In order to promote domestic tourism, the Delhi government will conduct special tours for tourists from different parts of the country.
It will promote consumption of locally produced goods by appealing to the business organisations to set up "Made In India" corners at malls and supermarkets, and prepare a list of daily use and electronic products manufactured in the country.
Products manufactured in the country will also be prioritised during procurements by the Delhi government, the chief minister said.
A citizen pledge will be administered at the offices and the colleges during the 90-day drive to save fuel, use public transport, cut down excess cooking oil, adopt car pooling, avoid unnecessary foreign travel and gold purchase, she said.
The government will make efforts to save electricity through deploying master switches and censors in offices, and maintaining air conditioners at 24-26 degrees Celsius, Gupta added.
The chief minister has also cut down on her carcade by 60 per cent, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to people to spend wisely and save fuel in view of the war in West Asia, officials said.
The chief minister's convoy now has only four vehicles, including two EVs, they said.
