New Delhi, May 3 (PTI) BJP MP Anil Baluni on Sunday said a new train service has been approved between Ramnagar and Dehradun, giving another boost to railway connectivity in Uttarakhand.
Sharing a letter from Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in an X post, the MP from Uttarakhand's Garhwal said the train he had requested earlier this year has been approved for operation by the ministry.
Expressing his gratitude to Vaishnaw, Baluni said the minister has consistently responded positively to his requests concerning railway facilities in Uttarakhand and has approved multiple train services and stoppages.
"Friends, I am sharing with all of you another achievement in the railway services of Uttarakhand. I have received a letter from Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, in which he has informed me about the approval for the operation of a new train between Ramnagar and Dehradun, as requested by me.
"I express my heartfelt gratitude to the minister, who has consistently shown generosity towards my requests related to railway facilities for the people of Uttarakhand and has approved several train services and stoppages," he wrote on X.
Baluni also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that his tenure has brought several rail-related developments to the state.
"The tenure of our respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been full of achievements not only for the country but also for Uttarakhand," Baluni added.
He cited services, such as the Naini Doon Express between Kathgodam and Dehradun, a train service connecting Kotdwar with New Delhi, and the Vande Bharat Express between Dehradun and Lucknow, as key initiatives benefiting Uttarakhand.
"With the start of the Ramnagar-Dehradun rail service, people of the region will find it easier to travel to Dehradun, saving both time and money," the MP said.
In a letter to the railway minister on January 5, 2026, Baluni had urged him to start a direct train service between Ramnagar and the state capital, noting that there is currently no direct rail link between the two cities.
As a result, the passengers are forced to take longer routes, he had written.
The MP highlighted that a direct service would significantly improve connectivity between the Kumaon and Garhwal regions and benefit daily commuters.
"If a direct train service is established between Ramnagar and Dehradun, it will facilitate connectivity between the Kumaon and Garhwal regions. Both Ramnagar and Dehradun are important hubs for working people. A large number of workers, students and business people travel between the two cities daily," his letter said.
Taking note of the request, the Railway Ministry has now granted approval for the new train service, Vaishnaw said in his reply.
