Kannur (Kerala), May 2 (PTI) UDF Independent candidate P V Anvar and CPI(M) rebel leader V Kunhikrishnan met at the latter’s residence in Payyanur here on Saturday.
Anvar, a former LDF MLA, left the front and contested the Assembly election as a UDF-backed Independent from Beypore in Kozhikode.
Kunhikrishnan, a former CPI(M) leader, was expelled from the party after raising corruption allegations against Payyanur sitting MLA T I Madhusoodanan and later contested the Assembly election as a UDF-backed Independent.
Speaking to reporters, Anvar said it was a personal visit.
“Kunhikrishnan left the party following ‘Pinarayism’, autocracy and family rule. It is due to the same reasons that I left the LDF one and a half years ago. As both of us fought against the same policies and contested elections, the intention behind the visit was to extend my support,” he said.
Anvar had joined the Trinamool Congress after leaving the LDF.
However, he recently resigned from the party and announced plans to form a new political organisation comprising like-minded people while extending support to the Congress in Kerala and at the national level.
Last month, he had said the new party would be launched by May 15.
