Lucknow, Apr 24 (PTI) Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday accused the BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh government of being "undemocratic and inhumane" and ineffective in solving crimes against women.
Addressing a press conference at the party's state headquarters here, the former UP chief minister called the government "anti-people" and claimed that incidents of violence against women in districts such as Ghazipur, Hathras, and Hardoi did not end in the victims getting justice.
He also alleged that the administration was targeting Samajwadi Party delegations visiting victims' families and registering FIRs against them.
Yadav said the party and its workers have a "big responsibility" to ensure justice for marginalised communities and to safeguard democracy and the Constitution.
He claimed that BJP leaders acquire land ahead of development projects to capitalise on price hike. Water bodies in Lucknow have been encroached upon, he also alleged.
Yadav alleged that despite the government spending around Rs 7,000 crore on a green corridor in Lucknow, traffic congestion persists.
He alleged irregularities in the rollout of smart electricity metres and claimed that the government was burdening consumers while benefiting private players. He said no new power plants had been set up since 2017, when the BJP came to power in the state.
The SP chief said government hospitals, primary health centres and community health centres were afflicted with shortages of doctors and medical facilities.
He alleged that procurement of wheat from farmers was inadequate due to limited purchase centres and restrictive conditions, forcing farmers to sell produce through middlemen to large private firms.
Yadav also referred to recent fire incidents in parts of the state, alleging that such incidents were being used to force the people to vacate the land.
Commenting on ongoing state elections, he expressed confidence that Mamata Banerjee would secure a "historic victory" in West Bengal.
