Hyderabad, Apr 21 (PTI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has thrown a challenge at BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao and vowed to defeat the regional party in the next Assembly elections in 2028.

He also called upon the ruling Congress activists to strive to make Rahul Gandhi Prime Minister in 2029.
Addressing a public meeting in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district on Monday, after releasing the second tranche of funds under the 'Rythu Bharosa' investment support scheme for farmers, he asserted that Congress would return to power after the next Assembly polls with the highest majority in the country.

He asked Congress workers to take a vow to make Rahul Gandhi PM by winning 15 LS seats out of 17 in Telangana.
"I will change my name if I don't make you (Rao) lose your opposition status. I defeated you in 2023 (Assembly polls), gave you zero in 2024 (Lok Sabha elections), buried you in village panchayat president and municipal elections, built a grave for you in Jubilee Hills, Cantonment (Assembly bypolls)...." he said.
"This is my challenge on behalf of Congress workers. Let's see whether it's you (KCR) or me," he said, giving a slogan of "aur ek baar, Congress sarkar" (Congress government, once again).
Observing that TDP (1994-2004) and Congress (2004-2014) in undivided Andhra Pradesh and BRS (2014-23) after the formation of Telangana were in power for two consecutive terms, the CM said he and PCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud would ensure Congress win in Telangana for another term.

Hitting out at Rao, also known as KCR, Reddy said it is "not wrong to hang" the BRS president from a tree for the alleged corruption and sinking of piers in the Kaleshwaram project built at Rs one lakh crore during the previous BRS government.
The Chief Minister visited the Medigadda barrage of the Kaleshwaram project before addressing the public meeting, where repair works were underway.
"I saw the entire Kaleshwaram today. I feel deeply hurt. Had there been no laws, and if it were a barbaric rule, it would not be wrong to hang from a tree in a forest. You made Rs 1 lakh crore drain in the Godavari river. You changed the name, place and project estimates and gulped Rs 1 lakh crore," he charged.
Though KCR deserved such a punishment, Congress, which believed in democracy, referred the issue for CBI probe, he said.

KCR handed over positions to his son, daughter and nephews when in power, he said.
The CM also launched a blistering attack on former Congress MLA T Jeevan Reddy, who joined BRS on Monday in the presence of KCR at a public meeting. The CM, however, did not take Jeevan Reddy's name.
He alleged that the leader, who was in Congress for 40 years, quit the party because he was not made a minister.
Slamming Jeevan Reddy for his comments that the Congress rule led by Revanth Reddy should go, the chief minister said the former was a TDP leader and a minister in 1980s.
However, Jeevan Reddy "backstabbed" late N T Rama Rao and joined Nadendla Bhaskar Rao when the latter led a coup against the TDP founder in 1984.
Seeking to know why the Congress rule should go, Revanth Reddy highlighted the numerous welfare measures initiated by his government, including free travel for women in RTC buses, farm loan waiver, and provision of fine variety rice through PDS.
