Jammu, Apr 1 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir State Election Commissioner Shantmanu on Wednesday reviewed the ongoing revision of panchayat electoral rolls and directed the officers to ensure 100 per cent enrolment of eligible voters across the Union Territory.
Chairing a meeting of electoral registration officers, assistant electoral registration officers and panchayat block electoral officers, the commissioner took stock of the revision exercise, which began on March 27 with the publication of the draft electoral roll, an official spokesperson said.
The process invites claims and objections for fresh enrolments, deletions and transfer of voters, he said.
Laying emphasis on door-to-door outreach, Shantmanu directed the field staff to ensure that all eligible citizens attaining 18 years of age by the cut-off date of April 1, 2026, are enrolled in the voter's list.
The last date for filing claims and objections is April 29, 2026.
The state election commissioner instructed the officers to strictly adhere to timelines for disposal of claims and objections and to submit daily progress reports to the commission, the spokesperson said.
He also asked the block development officers to conduct awareness campaigns in every panchayat halqa to publicise the revision process.
The commission will seek continuous feedback from district-appointed roll observers to monitor the exercise and ensure complete coverage of eligible voters, he added.
