Dibrugarh, Mar 20 (PTI) The president of Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), Lurinjyoti Gogoi, on Friday filed his nomination for the Khowang constituency in Dibrugarh district.
Gogoi had contested the 2021 assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha polls unsuccessfully, with the AJP yet to make its entry into the assembly or Parliament.
The AJP is part of a six-party alliance for the April 9 assembly elections, which include the Congress, Raijor Dal and CPI(M).
Gogoi also led a procession of the alliance members and leaders through the streets of Dibrugarh town, in an apparent show of unity of the opposition parties.
Talking to reporters after submitting his nomination, Gogoi exuded confidence about wrestling the seat from the ruling BJP.
“My objective is to be the voice of people of the constituency as well as people of the state. I seek their blessings,” the AJP chief said.
Polling for the 126-member assembly will be held on April 9, and counting of votes will take place on May 4.
