Man commits suicide in UP

Meerut, Jan 29 (PTI) A 23-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his house in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Sunday.
The family of the deceased, Dushyant Chaudhary, alleged he took the extreme step as he was being pressured by his in-laws to embrace Islam.
Station House Officer, Nauchandi, Upendra Singh Yadav said Chaudhary went to his room to sleep on Saturday night. When he did not come out of his room till late on Sunday morning, his mother went to wake him up and found his body hanging from the ceiling fan.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, they said.
According to Chaudhary's family members, he married Farha almost three years ago and her family was pressuring him to convert to Islam. Due to this, he was stressed, they claimed.
"Dushyant married Farha three years ago without the permission of his family. For some time, they stayed with their respective families. Dushyant wanted to bring Farha home but her family members insisted that he should embrace Islam first," Chaudhary's cousin brother Johnny told PTI.
"Farha and her family members also took Dushyant to Deoband. Dushyant was being harassed and was under pressure," he said.
Circle Officer (Civil Lines) Arvind Chaurasia told PTI, "A case has been registered in the matter and the incident is being probed."
