Hanoi, Nov 2 (PTI) National Security Adviser Ajit Doval on Monday held separate high-level talks with Vietnam's ministers of public security and foreign affairs on strengthening bilateral cooperation in security and other areas and agreed to further enhance the existing "multifaceted" ties.
Doval held delegation-level talks with Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang on ongoing cooperation in the security domain, reflecting the "deep and mutually trusted civilisational partnership between India and Vietnam," the Indian Embassy in Hanoi said in a post on X.
"Both sides discussed ongoing cooperation in the security domain and agreed to further enhance the existing multifaceted ties. They also exchanged views on regional and global developments," the post said.
Separately, Doval also met Vietnam's Foreign Affairs Minister Le Hoai Trung, during which the two sides discussed ways to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
"2027 marks the 55th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Viet Nam. Both sides discussed ways to commemorate this historic milestone in the spirit of India-Vietnam Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership," the Indian embassy said in a post.
Earlier, Doval met Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence General Phan Van Giang and reviewed ongoing bilateral defence cooperation and agreed to further deepen engagement in the sector.
"National Security Advisor of India Ajit Doval met today with General Phan Van Giang, Member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence of Vietnam," the embassy said.
"Both sides reviewed the status of ongoing bilateral defence cooperation and agreed to continue further strengthening activities in this field," it said.
Doval also visited the historic Quan Su Pagoda in Hanoi on Monday.
"He was received by Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu, Standing Vice President and the Chief Abbot of the Pagoda, and Most Venerable Thich Duc Thien, Vice President and Secretary General of the National Viet Nam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)," the Indian embassy said, highlighting Buddhism as a "civilisational bridge" between the people of India and Vietnam.
Doval arrived in Vietnam on Sunday on an official visit.
His visit is in line with the India-Vietnam Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
During Vietnamese President To Lam's visit to India in May, India and Vietnam elevated their ties to an enhanced comprehensive strategic partnership and set a USD 25 billion annual trade target by 2030.
Security cooperation remains a key pillar of this upgraded partnership.
