New Delhi, Oct 29 (PTI) GMR Airports has reported an 86 per cent jump in consolidated profit after tax at Rs 65 crore in the three months ended September, helped by higher revenues from aero and non-aero segments even as traffic numbers were muted at its airports.

The company, which operates airports at Delhi, Hyderabad and a few other cities, had a profit after tax of Rs 35 crore in the year-ago period.

Total income of GMR Airports Ltd (GAL) rose 12 per cent to Rs 4,188 crore in the latest September quarter whereas traffic grew only 1 per cent on an annual basis at its airports, according to a release on Thursday.

In the year-ago period, the total income was at Rs 3,754 crore.

"On a Quarter-on-Quarter basis, total income increased 2.5 per cent even though traffic was down 8 per cent at GAL-operated Indian airports," the release said.

In the second quarter of the current financial year, GAL said there was resilient business performance driven by improvement in aero and non-aero revenues despite muted traffic.

Overall, GAL-operated airports handled 28 million passengers in the September quarter, with Delhi airport alone handling 18.1 million passengers during this period.

Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), which operates the Delhi airport, saw its profit after tax rise to Rs 121 crore in the September quarter under review compared to Rs 74 crore in the same period a year ago.

About Delhi airport, GAL said the "performance demonstrates resilience as total income, especially non-aero revenue, EBITDA and Profit After Tax improved on Year-on-Year and QoQ basis despite softness seen in passenger traffic".

EBITDA refers to Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortisation.

The total passenger traffic at the airport in the September quarter increased 3 per cent to 18.1 million on an annual basis on the back of 2.5 per cent and 4.3 per cent rise in domestic and international traffic, respectively.

Shares of GAL, which announced its financial results late on Wednesday, fell 1.53 per cent to Rs 88.33 apiece in afternoon trade on the BSE. GAL, a global airport platform company, is part of the GMR Group and France's Groupe ADP is a co-promoter.
