Mohali, Mar 12 (PTI) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Thursday said a Rs 286 crore campus of Infosys coming up in Mohali will provide direct employment to about 2,700 youth and generate thousands of indirect jobs.
Speaking after the groundbreaking ceremony of the project, Mann said Punjab is witnessing a turnaround in its industrial sector with investors returning to the state.
He alleged that before 2022 many industries had moved out of Punjab due to extortion and pressure on industrialists, but investors were now coming back with confidence.
The chief minister said the Punjab government has attracted investment proposals worth over Rs 1.55 lakh crore since March 2022, which are expected to create jobs for about 5.44 lakh youth.
Mann said the Progressive Punjab Investment Summit to be held in Mohali from March 13-15 will open new opportunities for industrial growth in the state.
He thanked Infosys for investing in Punjab and recalled the contribution of the company's founder, N R Narayana Murthy to the growth of India's IT sector.
The chief minister said the first phase of the project will include an integrated campus with a software development block, food court and other facilities.
The campus will have a built-up area of about 3.5 lakh square feet with seating capacity for around 3,000 people. Mann said the state government will provide full support for the project and expressed hope that more companies will invest in Punjab, creating employment opportunities for youth.
He also said a Rs 3,200 crore project of Tata Steel will be inaugurated in Ludhiana on March 20 and is expected to generate around 2,500 jobs. Mann said the Punjab government's industry-friendly policies, corruption-free governance and peaceful environment were helping attract investments to the state.
Cabinet minister Sanjeev Arora and Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjeet Singh Sawhney were also present on the occasion.
