Smartphone cameras have gotten good—really good—in the last few years, and it wouldn't be wrong to say most of us, who aren't professional photographers, don't carry a dedicated camera with us for taking photos these days.

Having said that, there's still a certain charm to having an instant camera that prints your photos almost as quickly as you take them. The Instax Mini series has been doing so for quite a while—the Mini 13 is an instant camera that takes up film sheets and prints out your photos instantly.

The camera is made of plastic and comes in some nice-looking colours—I tried it in light green, and it also comes in white, purple, pink and blue. There's a small mirror that you can look into for taking selfies, and there's also a timer (2 seconds or 10 seconds) so you can set up the camera and take group shots, a useful feature.

You get 2 packs of 10 individual sheets stacked together, and replacing them in the camera takes a minute, and it is quite straightforward. While taking a photo, just make sure you aren't jamming the opening from where the printed sheet comes out with your hand or something else. Once this setup is done, you can buy film online or from Fujifilm.

The camera itself weighs 327 grams, has a flash, automatic exposure settings so it adjusts to light settings on its own. You can take regular shots with the viewfinder, of course. The print quality is not bad at all. You can adjust the distance by zooming in or out. I liked outdoor shots as well as some detailed shots I kept for indoors. You aren't going to view them on a digital display, but you can keep the printed photos in a frame if you want. Once the print comes out, give it just a few minutes to dry and all of the colours of the photo start to appear.

Priced at ₹8,499, this Instax camera isn't only a party trick but also a useful gadget that you can take out when somebody comes over to your place, or you go out with your dear ones, or you simply want something captured beyond your smartphone screen—instantly—and it does this without any hiccups.
