American voters punished US President Donald Trump for his domestic and foreign policies, that has resulted in hike in price of fuel and essentials over the last year. And the GOP has paid the price as they lost in multiple strongholds across the country.
The Democrats now have the majority in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. In the Senate, the seats flipped by the Dems include Kansas, Texas, North Carolina and South Carolina.
North Carolina was the first to flip as former governor Roy Cooper defeated Trump-backed Michael Whatley in the Republican stronghold. In South Carolina, Annie Andrews won against Darline Graham, the sister of veteran GOP leader late Lindsey Graham.
Another seat flipped by Dems was Texas, where James Talarico defeated GOP's Ken Paxton. This was the first statewide victory in more than three decades.
Kansas broke a long-time record with Adam Hamilton, a pastor, becoming the first Democrat to win a Senate seat since the Great Depression nearly hundred years ago. In Ohio, Sherrod Brown won a seat that belonged to Vice President JD Vance two years ago.
Georgia made history with Keisha Lance Bottoms becoming the state's first Black governor, defeating Republican nominee Rick Jackson. The state also saw Democrat Senator Jon Ossoff, a potential presidential candidate in the 2028 elections, getting re-elected.
This is a developing story
