‘I had to kill him’: Goldy Brar admits role in Nijjar murder in leaked audio
The killing of Nijjar had triggered a major diplomatic standoff between India and Canada
Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar has reportedly confessed in a leaked audio recording to the 2023 killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Brar's alleged motive involved Nijjar's purported support for local drug networks exploiting young people to expand his influence. This assassination ignited a severe diplomatic crisis between India and Canada, escalating after Canadian accusations of potential Indian government involvement, which New Delhi has vehemently denied. The situation has seen a shift in Canadian governmental stance, with recent statements indicating a lack of evidence connecting Indian officials to the murder.

Canada-based gangster Satinderjeet Singh, better known as Goldy Brar, has allegedly admitted to the killing of wanted Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in 2023, an incident that triggered a major diplomatic standoff between India and Canada.
According to media reports, Brar made the claim in a leaked audio recording of a conversation with Khalistani terrorist Paramjit Singh Pamma. In the purported clip, Brar alleged that Nijjar supported and protected local drug networks that exploited teenagers.
“Those who groomed and incited 16- to 17-year-olds to sell drugs… those who blackmailed young people into selling drugs and becoming informants… Nijjar supported and strengthened these individuals so that he could use them when necessary,” Brar is heard saying.
He further alleged that Nijjar provided backing and protection to drug peddlers to expand his own influence.
“That’s why we, my team and I, had to kill Nijjar, because these people were using young people to sell drugs. Everyone has to face the consequences of their actions,” Brar allegedly said.
Nijjar was shot dead outside the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, in June 2023. The then Justin Trudeau government subsequently alleged that Indian government agents may have been involved in the killing, triggering a sharp diplomatic confrontation between Ottawa and New Delhi.
Tensions escalated further after Canada alleged possible involvement of Indian diplomatic officials in the case. India strongly rejected the allegations and has consistently denied any role in Nijjar’s murder.
Earlier this year, the Canadian government under Prime Minister Mark Carney appeared to soften Ottawa’s position, stating that there was no evidence establishing the involvement of Indian officials in Nijjar’s killing.
