Finnish police announced on July 9 that they recovered the remains of Indian student Manideep Reddy, who disappeared on May 5, stating the body was found in the sea in Kruunuvuorenranta and identified through biometric data and belongings, a claim vehemently denied by Reddy's family who suspect the body found 65 days after his disappearance is not their son's and allege inadequate police investigation into a suspected individual and difficulties in obtaining travel visas, prompting the family to seek intervention from the Telangana High Court and request a thorough investigation by the Indian government into Reddy's death.

Capping months of uncertainty, the Finnish police said they have recovered the remains  of Indian student Manideep Reddy, who went missing in Finland on May 5. Authorities said his body was found in the sea on July 9.

A statement by the Finnish Police said the body of Reddy was found in the sea during the search conducted by the authorities in Kruunuvuorenranta on July 9. However, a  controversy erupted after the family members of Reddy denied the claim, stating that the body they found was not that of their son.

According to the family, the Finnish police informed them via an email that a body was found on the beach and has been identified as Manideep based on biometric data and personal belongings. The Indian Embassy in Finland also informed Manideep's parents  about this. However, Manideep's father, G. Mutyam Reddy, has rejected the police statement, stating the body was not that of their son.

The family alleges that the body was discovered 65 days after Reddy’s disappearance. They believe the Finnish police are under pressure to close the case within three weeks, as per local regulations, and are trying to identify the remains as their son.

They also raised concerns that the police have not properly investigated a person they suspect is involved in the case. They also faced serious difficulties in getting visas to travel to Finland for the search, the family was quoted by local media.

Reddy, a native of Vanasthalipuram in Hyderabad, is studying software engineering at  the Lappirnanta-Lahti University of Technology (LUT) in Lahti. He last spoke to his family members on May 5 and then went missing in Helsinki, 100 km away from the university. He was last seen in CCTV footage of a shopping mall there.

A case has been registered by the Finnish National Bureau of Investigation. The family members have also approached the Telangana High Court seeking its intervention. In light of the latest developments, Manideep's family is requesting the Indian government to conduct a thorough investigation into this death.
