The video of classroom violence that shocked the Philippines last month is doing the rounds on the internet.
It is the visuals of a horrific incident that took place at Bethel Academy of General Trias City, Cavite, on June 16 that have become viral on Indian social media. Known as the "Historical Capital of the Philippines," Cavite is located just southwest of Metro Manila.
The video captured a grade 8 girl attacking several juniors inside a classroom. Seven grade 5 kids — both boys and girls — were injured after they were repeatedly stabbed with a kitchen knife.
The video showed the senior student entering the classroom and attacking students in the front row. She randomly attacked several students inside the classroom, as most were too shocked to react. Soon, the scared lot managed to flee the classroom while trying to use their school bags as a shield from the stabbings.
An internal meeting for the teaching staff was underway when the incident happened, local media reports said, explaining why there was no adult intervention amidst the screams of the kids.
Among the seven wounded students, two needed surgery for their injuries, reports said. The 14-year-old attacker was, meanwhile, transferred to a mental facility for evaluation. It was not known how she managed to bring a kitchen knife to school during the time of compiling this report.
