‘Modi’s hypocrisy is off the charts’: Ukrainian analyst fumes at New Delhi for ‘publicly siding with evil’

As the Russian delegation led by President Vladimir Putin is set to arrive in India for a two-day state visit, a Ukrainian political analyst has accused India of publicly siding with evil by abandoning its neutral position in Russia's war with Ukraine.

Victor Kaspruk, a journalist and political analyst, highlighted India's invitation to Putin, stating that “India, by sharply approaching the terrorist state, is publicly demonstrating its shift to the side of evil for the sake of dubious economic benefits.

Pointing out that the meeting was happening amid India’s tariff tensions with the United States, tightening Western sanctions against Russia and New Delhi’s preparations for the BRICS presidency in 2026, Kaspruk the summit was shaped less by tradition than by the ongoing economic and geopolitical pressures.

“Thus, by openly declaring partnership with the rogue state of the Russian Federation, India is abandoning its neutral position in Russia's war with Ukraine. Although it was already clear that New Delhi's "neutral" position was a fiction, and India, which had never condemned Moscow for its unprovoked invasion of Ukrainian lands, was not going to join in supporting the democratic values of the West, Kaspruk wrote in the Ukrainian website Glavcom.

He further unleashed on New Delhi, stating that India's position was determined by its historical ties with Russia and strategic interests, in particular in the defense and energy spheres. “Now, by purchasing energy resources from the Russian Federation, India is helping Putin continue his bloody criminal war in Ukraine,” Kaspruk added.

He also ruled out any Western expectation that there was a chance to knock New Delhi out of Russia’s orbit. “Although it should have been clear from the beginning that India's silence after Moscow's invasion of Ukraine was implicit support for the criminal actions of the Putin regime. And now, it seems, India is making its final choice,” he said.

The analyst also stressed on India’s  and Russia’s potential plan to make Mir card and the RuPay network interoperable. “With Visa and Mastercard banned in Russia from 2022,  the Mir-RuPay corridor has become one of Moscow’s most pressing priorities, with Indian  officials saying technical discussions are now “advanced” after External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Putin in Moscow,” Kaspruk said.

This move will boost RuPay’s global ambitions and cement UPI’s position as a model for international payments – an agenda that New Delhi intends to showcase during its BRICS presidency. Kaspruk said Putin has managed to convince the Indian leadership to help  Russia avoid international sanctions and is ready to officially consolidate this achievement during his visit to New Delhi.

“The hypocrisy of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is simply off the charts, while at the same time showing that India is entering a dark age and is almost ready to join the axis of evil - the Russian Federation, China, North Korea, and Iran,” he added.
