A massive fire broke out at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjahlal International Airport on Saturday afternoon, which has led to flight operations being suspended for the time being.

The incident took place at the cargo terminal of the airport just after 2 PM, a Dhaka Tribune report said, citing Biman Bangladesh Airlines spokesperson Kawser Mahmud. However, the cause of the fire is not yet known.

Teams from the airport's fire department, in addition to the Bangladesh Air Force's fire unit and other agencies, were promptly rushed to the terminal.

According to Bangladesh's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Navy has joined a number of firefighting units at the airport trying to bring the blaze under control, with five more units on the way, local media reports said.

As a result, Batik Air's OD-163 flight from Dhaka to Kuala Lumpur and IndiGo's 6E-1116 from Dhaka to Mumbai have been stalled for the time being.
