The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) on Sunday released footage showing its Air Force fighter jets downing around 300 drones, and missiles fired from Iran.

Israeli military spokesperson Rear Adm Daniel Hagari said that almost 99 per cent of the launches had been intercepted, saying “the Iranian attack was foiled”.

Hagari said Iran fired 170 drones, more than 30 cruise missiles and over 120 ballistic missiles. The ballistic missiles reaching the ground caused minor damage to an air base. Israel's anti-missile system, Iron Dome, one of the best air defence systems in the world, intercepted many rockets that was fired from Iran. Along with US, UK also supported Israel in downing the missiles.

This was Iran's first direct attack against Israel since the escalation of the Middle East crisis after the Hamas attack on October 7.

Iran's strike comes after 'Israeli' air strikes at its consulate in Syria killed its senior military officials including a top commander of the IRGC.

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel’s defensive system is strong and is ready for any scenario. "In recent years, and especially in recent weeks, Israel has been preparing for a direct attack by Iran. Our defensive systems are deployed; we are ready for any scenario, both defensively and offensively. The State of Israel is strong. The IDF is strong. The public is strong," said Netanyahu.
