Afghanistan crash: Moscow-bound air ambulance found, 4 survive

The condition of the two others onboard is being clarified

The aircraft, that crashed in the mountainous area near Zebak in Afghanistan's Badakhshan province was found in Kuf Ab district on Sunday. Reportedly, four people survived the plane crash and the condition of the rest two other people on board is being clarified.

The Morocco-registered Dassault Falcon (DF-10) plane, operating as an air ambulance, was flying from Utapao airport in Thailand to Moscow. Reportedly, the plane had six passengers including crew members.

The Moscow-bound plane only did refuelling at the Gaya airport en route to Moscow, said officials.

Initially, reports emerged that it was an Indian plane that was involved in the crash. However, the civil aviation ministry clarified that the aircraft did not belong to any Indian carrier.

"The aircraft was neither an Indian scheduled aircraft nor a non-scheduled (NSOP)/charter aircraft...It is a Moroccan registered small aircraft," the Civil Aviation Ministry posted on X.

The plane departed the Gaya airport after refuelling at 4.02 pm on Saturday, an official told PTI.

According to Russian civil aviation authorities, the plane went missing with four crew members and two passengers. The authorities lost the communication with the plane and it “disappeared from radar screens”.

Abdul Wahid Rayan, a spokesman for the Taliban's Information and Culture Ministry was quoted in a report saying that there was an engine problem with the plane.

Zebak is about 150 miles (250km) north-east of Afghanistan's capital, Kabul.

The Taliban-run Afghan aviation ministry has launched an investigation into the plane crash.

Russia’s investigative committee said it had opened a criminal case to determine whether safety rules had been violated.
