As the Israel-Gaza tension intensifies, an incident of car-rammings in central Israel killed a woman and injured over 10 people on Monday. According to the officials, the incident took place in Raanana, north of Tel Aviv.
Two suspects were arrested in connection with the car-rammings. The two are from the same family in Hebron, a city in the occupied West Bank. They had entered the city illegally, said police.
"They went out together and in parallel, to two different locations, took two cars and launched a series of rammings," central district police chief Avi Biton told reporters.
According to Israel media, some people may also have been stabbed in the incident.
“This was apparently a suspected terrorist ramming attack,” police said in a statement.
Police had earlier said that at least one of the vehicles had been stolen.
Fate of three Israeli hostages
The lives of three Israeli hostages hangs in balance as Israel-Hamas war intensifies. A video aired by Hamas on Sunday showed three Israeli hostages being held in captive by Hamas. The undated 37-second video of Noa Argamani, 26, Yossi Sharabi, 53, and Itai Svirsky, 38, ended with the caption: "Tomorrow (Monday) we will inform you of their fate."
Meanwhile, 12 Palestinians were killed and others wounded in an Israeli airstrike overnight on a house in Gaza City in the north, health officials said.
Communications across the narrow coastal Gaza Strip remained severed for a fourth consecutive day as well.
"We need unimpeded, safe access to deliver aid and a humanitarian ceasefire to prevent further death and suffering," said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, head of the World Health Organization (WHO), adding that hunger would further harm the sick and make "an already terrible situation catastrophic."
