Peers got suspicious when a priest failed to make it to a pre-arranged meeting in Českobudějovick -- a town in the Czech Republic's Southern Bohemia. They alerted the emergency service, who rushed to the priest's residence that was reportedly locked in. 

The firefighters who arrived on the scene broke open as many as three doors to reach the priest, who was found unconscious in a pool of blood. Turns out, the priest was fighting for his life after having severed his genitals using a kitchen knife.

The unnamed priest, who was reportedly rushed to hospital, is suspected to have chopped off his own penis after suffering a tick bite. He was driven psychotic by the bite, doctors assume.

The doctors put the priest into an induced coma after his condition worsened, the DailyMail reported. He was put on ventilator support as he developed breathing difficulties. 

Later, the vicar general of the České Budějovice diocese reportedly told the press that the victim suffered tick-borne encephalitis, which caused the psychosis. The encephalitis had caused inflammation of his nervous system that led to the psychosis, he elaborated to the press.

An investigation by the Czech police have ruled out any foul play behind the incident. The priest reportedly hurt himself while alone at his residence, the cops maintain.
