Indian-origin couple along with their teenage daughter was found dead in their $5 million Dover mansion in the US state of Massachusetts. The deceased was identified as Rakesh Kamal (57), his wife Teena (54) and Ariana (18).
Their bodies were found on Thursday by about 7:30 pm, said Norfolk District Attorney (DA) Michael Morrissey. According to the officials, the preliminary investigation hints at domestic violence.
Dover is about 32 kilometres southwest of downtown Boston.
The couple had previously run a now-defunct education systems company called EduNova.
The district attorney, who described the terrible tragedy as a domestic violence situation, said a gun was found near the husband's body. However, it is yet to be known who shot all three family members.
Morrissey said he was waiting for the medical examiner's ruling, which was expected soon, before deciding whether to refer to the incident as a murder-suicide.
It is reported that the couple had financial issues in recent years.
The district attorney said that it was their relative who discovered their bodies after they didn’t get any response from the couple in one or two days.
The district attorney said the investigation was ongoing. However, the police in a statement said that the preliminary investigation reveals that there is no outsider involved.
The family's mansion estimated to be worth $5.45 million went into foreclosure a year ago and was sold to the Massachusetts-based Wilsondale Associates LLC for USD 3 million, according to The Post.
The 19,000-square-foot estate which boasts 11 bedrooms was purchased by the Kamals for $4 million in 2019, according to the records, according to media reports.
The slain family was one of the richest in the state.
Their company was launched in 2016 but was dissolved in December 2021, state records show.
Teena was listed on EduNova's website as the chief operating officer of the company, describing her as an alumini of Harvard University and Delhi University in India.
According to the website, Kamal was an alumnus of Boston University and the MIT Sloan School of Management, as well as Stanford University. The couple's daughter was a student at Middlebury College.
In September 2022, Teena had filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy listing between $1 million and $10 million in liabilities. However, the case was dismissed two months later due to insufficient documentation.
