The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday suspended PTI chairman Imran Khan's three-year sentence in the Toshakhana case.

Division bench comprising Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri announced the order while considering Khan's appeal against the sentence.

"The CJ has accepted our request, suspended the sentence and said a detailed decision would be provided later," PTI chairman's aide on legal affairs Naeem Haider Panjotha said on X (formerly Twitter).

Meanwhile, a special court set to hear cases under the Official Secrets Act has directed the Attock jail authorities to keep Khan in "judicial remand" and produce him on Wednesday in connection with the cipher case, the Dawn reported.

The copy of the judgement is yet to be received.

A trial court in Islamabad on August 5 has convicted the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief in the Toshakhana case and was sentenced to three years in prison. He was slapped with a fine of one lakh Pakistani rupees as well.

Khan is accused of misusing his term as the Prime Minister to buy and sell gifts in state possession that were received during visits abroad. Khan was arrested after the trial court found him guilty in the Toshakhana corruption case. He had appealed against the conviction.

He had said that the trial judge made the conclusions on the basis of a "predisposed mind". It was also alleged that the petitioner's lawyer was not given the right of presenting arguments.

It was "tainted with bias", stated Khan's plea on the judgment.

Khan was convicted in the case filed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) last year after it had disqualified him for not showing the money he received after selling the gifts purchased at a discounted price.
