Police nabs suspect, motive yet to be ascertained

Five people got killed and 18 persons suffered injuries in a shooting at a gay nightclub in Colorado. Police have nabbed the suspect who is undergoing treatment for injuries.

According to police, the attack occurred at Club Q, Colorado Springs just before midnight and police, emergency services rushed to the spot on receiving a distress call.

“A suspect was in custody and was being treated for injuries after the attack at Club Q, Colorado Springs Police Lieutenant Pamela Castro was quoted saying at a news conference by Reuters. Police got the initial phone call just before midnight about the shooting, Castro said, adding that upon arrival, officers located one person who was believed to be the suspect inside the club, the publication quoted the officer.

The police refused to comment on the motive or regarding the type of firearm used by the suspect.

The club, in a statement on its Facebook page said, “Devastated by the senseless attack on our community. We thank the quick reactions of heroic customers that subdued the gunman and ended this hate attack."

The club is reportedly located in a strip mall on the outskirts of Colorado Springs.

In 2016, a gunman, who claimed allegiance to Islamic State killed 49 people at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida. The gunman got killed in an exchange of gunfire with police.
