At least 34 people, including 22 children, were killed in a mass shooting at a children's daycare centre in Thailand on Thursday. The gunman was a former policeman who later shot and killed himself, Reuters reported.

A spokesman for a regional public affairs office told AP that the casualties include two teachers and one police officer. The incident happened in the town of Nongbua Lamphu.

Though gun ownership is high in Thailand, when compared to other countries in the region, mass shootings are rare. In 2020, a soldier angry over a property deal gone sour killed at least 29 people and wounded 57 in a rampage that spanned four locations, Reuters stated in a report.
