At least 20 people suffered burns after jumping out of a train as it stopped close to the Bejis forest fire. The train was passing through the Castellon region in northeast Spain. The train was headed from Sagunto to Zaragoza. Passengers broke the glass and jumped out of the window as the driver was preparing to reverse the train.

Among the injured, two of them suffered intense burns—they were evacuated by helicopters. The others were sent to hospitals nearby. The train had 48 passengers on board.

“Once they saw that they were surrounded by fire they got back on the train and several of them had suffered burns,” a spokesperson for the Spanish rail company Renfe told the Guardian. In the region of Bejis, Valencia, over 1000 people have been evacuated due to the wildfires. Spain's prolonged heatwave has destroyed thousands of acres of woodland. Valencia is the latest to get affected by extreme forest fires. The fires in Bejis have destroyed about 1,900 acres of land.
