Marina Ovsyannikova, the Russian journalist, who in March interrupted a news broadcast to denounce war was detained. The Russian police detained Ovsyannikova on Sunday, her social media posts revealed.

The detention took place 44 days after the journalist walked into the background of a news broadcast holding up signs in Russia denouncing Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The sign also criticised President Putin. “Marina has been detained,” her entourage said in a message posted on the journalist’s Telegram account. “There is no information on where she is,” The Guardian reported.

Ovsyannikova has stepped out of her home to walk her two dogs when men in uniform approached her. She later posted on Facebook, “Now I’m sitting in Krasnoselsky ministry of internal affairs,” referring to a police station in Moscow.

Three hours later, Ovsyannikova wrote, “I’m home. Everything is okay. But now I know it’s always best to bring a suitcase and passport if you go out.”

Her lawyer, Dmitri Zakhvatov, said, “I assume that it is linked one way or another to her act of protest.”

Ovsyannikova, on Friday, posted pictures on Telegram of her at Kremlin holding a sign mentioning the deaths of children and denouncing Putin as a “killer”.
