Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny moved to hospital

Navalny's doc said that his condition seemed stable as he agreed to take vitamins

Jailed Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny has been transferred to a prison hospital, the Russian state penitentiary service said on Monday. The decision was made after Navalny's health deteriorated. He is in the third week of a hunger strike. Navalny's physician, on Saturday, said the 44-year-old could be on verge of death.

Navalny was detained at Moscow airport in January upon return from Berlin, where he was taken for treatment after he was poisoned in August. Navalny was detained on charges of corruption that stem from 2014 embezzlement charges. Navalny's physician, Yaroslav Ashikhmin, said that his state seemed satisfactory as he agreed to take vitamin supplements.

Ashikhmin, on Saturday, had said that Navalny's condition was alarming as test results showed high levels of potassium that could lead to cardiac arrest and heightened creatinine levels that indicate impaired kidneys.

Navalny went on a hunger strike on March 31, after he said he wasn't receiving the medical attention he needed. Navalny had said that he is being subjected to sleep deprivation torture and has lost sensation in one leg. He said he would continue to be on a hunger strike until his demand to allow a doctor to visit him is met.

The state penitentiary service has said that Navalny is receiving all the medical help he needs.
