US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris has time and again spoken of her love for cooking. In fact, in the video where the women in Kamala’s life introduce her, Harris’ step-daughters asks of how her Sunday night dinners bring the family together.

As Thanksgiving inches closer, Harris shared one of her favourite recipes on Instagram. “During difficult times I have always turned to cooking,” 56-year-old Harris wrote on Instagram while sharing a step-by-step recipe to make the perfect cornbread dressing. “This year, I wanted to share one of my family's favourite Thanksgiving recipes with you. I hope whenever you're able to make it in life, it brings you as much warmth as it has brought me-even when separated from those I love,” she added.

The message and recipe that has garnered about 2 lakh likes and several positive comments, comes at a time when several Americans will be forced to spend the holiday away from their families due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Health authorities have been urging citizens to avoid gatherings or travel to visit their families at Thanksgiving. Immunologist Dr Anthony Fauci said that people should ‘bit the bullet’ and cancel plans for mixing households at Thanksgiving.

More than 259,000 lives have been lost due to coronavirus in the US. Public health officials and administrators have been urging people to limit mingling between households. Getting tested 5-7 days before you gather for the holiday is also recommended as is hosting the event/meal outdoors.

Experts are also advising against sharing food and cutlery and asking people to maintain social distancing.
